2011 Highlands Striper Tournament Results

The Highlands Spring Striped Bass Tournament (highlandsnjstripedbasstournament.com) ran into some rugged weather Saturday, but concluded with an impressive performance by Capt. Erwin Heinrich on his Scales’n Tales from Atlantic Highlands as he not only had the biggest bass at 47.4 pounds, but also the winning two-fish total of 77.45 pounds. That didn’t put him too far ahead of Greg Nunn’s Happy Daze with a second place 74.35 pounds. Third went to Bill Zukasks on Fin-Z at 66.95 pounds, while Mike Ramizom took fourth at 66.90 pounds on Know Name. Fish Blind was fifth with 59.25 pounds, with both bass caught by the Junior Angler winner, Christian Owens. The Lady Angler winner was Trisha Pelkola at 26.70 pounds on Kiss The Fish.

There was also a Live Release Division. Harold Smith said they did their best to release the 47.4-pounder, but she didn’t make it. Of the four that were successfully tagged and released at Twin Lights Marina in Highlands, the winner of a Lowrance HDS5 donated by Tom Morford Jr. of Atlantic Marine Electronics in Red Bank was Capt. Barry Heffernan on Finangler with a 31.3-pounder caught by Bill Strehl.

The contest drew 35 boats, and profits go to Jason’s Dreams For Kids. Most of the 38 bass weighed in were filleted by club members for the Monmouth County Food Bank or The Lunch Break in Red Bank.
